Zilpa is 70 year old grandmother to Sedrick who is a primary 6 boarding pupil in WOOVC education program at Brain Giant Primary school. Sedrick stays with the elderly grandmother during school holidays at the home which we first visited at the beginning of this year. When we visited again in April this year, we noticed that the mad and wattle family house was in very sorry state, the walls were falling apart and the roofing was damaged and was leaking. We knew this was very dangerous for both Zilpa and Sedrick and we had to find a quick solution for this; we decided to construct a new semi-permanent house for the family working with the local community

Thanks to Helping Hands for Vulnerable Children-HHVC for providing the finances to purchase all required materials. The local leadership and local Seventh Day Adventist( in which Zilpa is a member) have since supported WOOVC in mobilizing the community members to offer manual labour as volunteers. The wattle framework of the house is already up, the walls will be completed with daub and the final works will then be done. The family will then be safe and sedrick can then be comfortable and feel safe returning home every school holiday to spend time with his grandmother

Education of orphans and vulnerable children goes beyond provision of school fees and scholastic materials; every day we appreciate the contribution of a conducive home environment to the success of these children. We are very sensitive to this and we will continue to offer emergency support in critical situations as we work very hard to offer conducive spaces for children’s success
