Community Empowerment

Savings group members in office
Savings Program
We are currently running a very successful micro lending group known as village savings and loans association, VSLAs (with over 90% of membership being women). Members meet weekly to pool their savings from which they borrow money to enable them to do start-ups to improve household incomes. This was based on the background that over 15% of the people living in rural areas of Uganda are totally financially excluded. WOOVC makes additional credit available for this VSLA to boost it’s saving pool and lending capacity.
The program has greatly improved household income of the members and has improved their standard of living. VSLA has helped many people take their first steps toward entrepreneurship
Poverty Eradication
Many vulnerable children in the communities in which we work live with caregivers who may be guardians or family members. Many have lost their parents due to diseases such as AIDS and Malaria while others are vulnerable and needy because of the vicious cycle of poverty their families are trapped in. For many, just putting food on the tables is a struggle.
This WOOVC program partners with local leaders to ensure that people are supported through establishing income generating activities like the Piggery, poultry, improved farming, organized saving, etc to ensure that the caregivers have a sustainable source of income to support provision of basic needs in homes
We run a successful piggery project at the project premises which is both a demonstration and breeding point. Quality pigs are both provided as start-ups for community members and sold at affordable prices to local communities. This improves the quality of breeds in the local communities and also generates some income for the organization
