Water is a life saver but can also be a great threat to human life if it’s contaminated. WOOVC is implementing rain water harvesting systems to minimize challenges resulting from water shortage and contamination in Kayembe village, kabuga parish where a round route to the nearest water point can take an hour and beyond.

Besides the low costs and reduced water bill, harvested rain water can be stored for a longer period of time to cater for shortages during the dry season. As part of their housekeeping responsibility, women and girls travel very long distances to make a round route to the nearest water point, which is not only tiresome but exposes them to sexual and gender based violence (GBV). Safety of this water is not guaranteed.
